OWASS GOODWILL MESSAGE

GOODWILL MESSAGE BY SAM GARBA, ADMINISTRATOR OF THE GHANA EDUCATION TRUST FUND [GETFund] ON THE OCCASION OF THE DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF THE FOUNDING OF OPOKU WARE SCHOOL IN KUMASI ON SATURDAY 31ST MARCH, 2012.

I accept with a sense of appreciation and goodwill your invitation to me to celebrate with you the 60th Anniversary of the founding of your school. From the Board of Trustees and the Management of the GETFund, I salute all those who have had a part to play in the founding and nurturing of this great institution of yours.

The history of your founding points to a very important need expressed by the Catholic Faithful here in Kumasi who desired a certain quality of education for their boy-children and which quality they felt could be satisfied through Catholic education and mentorship.

Sixty years on, current generation of the School have had cause to look back like the proverbial SANKOFA BIRD so that you can take from your rich past and move forward. Your achievements over the past 60 years are a pointer to the fact that the struggle of the founding fathers has not been in vain and I wish to, on behalf of the Board of Trustees and Management of the GETFund, congratulate you most sincerely for not quenching the fire that illuminated the paths of the pioneering patrons, staff and students.

I am gratified that at sixty, OWASS is not retiring but rather using the occasion of the anniversary to rethink and strategize for a brighter future. This is important given that your school belongs in the league of well-acclaimed secondary schools in Ghana. I can only encourage you to be inspired both by your sixty years’ experience and the theme for your anniversary; “60 Years of Catholic Education: Building a School of Academic Excellence through Moral Discipline” to chart new causes that bode well for the total development of the students whose future and role in society is the reason for the existence of OWASS.

I commend also, the contributions of the Catholic Church, the Parent-Teacher Association, the Old Boys (AKATAKYIE)  and other benefactors of your school for the numerous and impressive contribution towards the improvement of infrastructure in your school. Their contribution serves as an example of what co-operation and collaboration with State institutions like the GETFund can do in the training of our youth. The GETFund is most encouraged by this show of support and wish to congratulate you once again for being actively involved in the development we see all around.

This is your DIAMOND JUBILEE enjoy the blitz that come with it and also remember that Ghana, your beloved country, needs more than ever before a well-trained and morally upright youth who will be responsible for the well-being and development of her citizens. The key to your future is what OWASS is providing you with now, hold fast on to it.

HAPPY 60TH ANNIVERSARY! CONGRATULATIONS!
